How to Play Daily Animedle

Animedle picks one character from a curated database of around 500 well-known anime characters each day. You have 8 guesses to identify them.

  1. Type a character name. Autocomplete suggests matching characters from our database.
  2. Press Enter. A row appears with seven attribute columns, each colored:
    • Green: exact match.
    • Yellow: close — same series franchise but different character, same genre family, similar age range, etc.
    • Red: different.
  3. Refine your next guess using the clues. Match more green attributes each round.
  4. Solve in 8 guesses or fewer to win.

Strategy: Solve in 4 Guesses

  1. Start with a flagship character. Guess one of the iconic protagonists you know inside out — Naruto, Goku, Lelouch, Mikasa. The point isn't to win on guess 1 but to map the genre and source columns.
  2. Use the genre column. If guess 1 colored the genre column red, eliminate that whole genre family on guess 2. If yellow, try an adjacent genre.
  3. Triangulate by series. Once you have a yellow series (same franchise), guess another character from that franchise on the next round.
  4. Match hair + eye color. Often the final distinguishing details between characters in the same series.

The Database

We deliberately exclude super-obscure characters that would make the game unwinnable. The bar is "would a person who watches anime regularly recognize this name in passing." Suggestions welcome.

Why Daily Animedle?

Most anime trivia games are open-ended quizzes. Animedle adds the daily-puzzle format that made Wordle a cultural phenomenon: one challenge a day, identical for everyone, with the shareable green-yellow-red grid afterward. The result is a ritual rather than just a quiz.

For anime communities on Discord and Reddit, the daily share is the point — bragging about a 3-guess solve or commiserating when everyone misses by one attribute.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Animedle work?

One mystery anime character is selected each day. You have 8 guesses. Each guess returns color-coded clues on series, genre, gender, hair color, eye color, age range, and origin (manga / original anime / light novel). Green = match, yellow = close, red = different.

What characters are included?

Around 500 well-known anime characters spanning shōnen, shōjo, seinen, isekai, slice-of-life, and classic series. We add new characters as new seasons air.

When does the puzzle reset?

Midnight UTC. Synced globally so all players see the same character on the same day.

Can I share my result?

Yes. After finishing, a spoiler-free grid summary is generated for sharing on Discord, Reddit, or social media.

Is this safe for all ages?

Characters are drawn from broadly available, age-appropriate series. We do not include adult-only content.

Can I suggest a character?

Yes — email hello@dailyanimedle.com with the character name and source series. We add suggestions weekly.
